Still Lifes Memories (2023-)

The title of my latest ongoing photography project hints at the fascination I've always had for the great Flemish and Dutch painters’ still lifes, linked with those for the details of the male body as portrayed by the Italian masters of the 15th and 16th century.

By overturning the traditional relationship between subject and surrounding elements and disrupting the reassuring hierarchy between the sitter and the support, my aim is to make the body - or a part of it - a tangible yet enigmatic element within the overall composition of the image.

Through a lens of mystery and suspense, emphasized by the delicate and pictorial lighting, I establish a direct connection to emotional memories from my childhood when, during my first trip to Florence with my family I was captivated by the masterpieces of Italian Renaissance.
